This Week
We're in a cool, weak active pattern this week with the Jet Stream staying north, but dipping south over the Great Lakes region:  Jet for the week of November 2nd Two noticeable dips this week are this evening with a weak, moisture starved cold front. Then again Wednesday evening with an enhanced wave sweeping through the Great Lakes. There's a very slight chance that Thursday morning we may see flurries right before daybreak, but I really doubt it. The first snow flakes will have to wait for another day. Next Week Long range models may be pointing toward an interesting November 10-12 storm system. Before then, a large ridge over most of the eastern US will break our stagnant pattern and probably raise temps this weekend in to the mid 60's. Like with waves, when you have a ridge (top of the wave), you counter that with a trough (dip behind the wave). The middle of the country will see a large trough accompanied by a strong cold front. At the same time, there is some expected tropical development in the southern Gulf. Whether than becomes a tropical storm, or just an upper low with abundant moisture, it should move north toward our area.  November 9th GFS If this scenario plays out, the convergence zone for the trough and the tropical moisture could be our area. Two things could play out: 1. Heavy rain 2. Nor'easter with wrap around snow showers for our area This is still 7-10 days away, so we'll just have to watch and wait.
Forecasting this system has been tricky, and predictions still aren't firm. Original long range model runs were showing just enough energy being pushed north in to our area Friday evening that we may see a strong squall line move through.That appears to be wrong.While the precipitation may be linear in nature Friday, it seems more likely to be a training effect over the region.
