At 11:00am in San Diego, it's 63 degrees and mostly sunny.
The weather icons around here are tricky -- residents know that often when the weather websites indicate that it's "cloudy" in San Diego, it's really more sunny than cloudy. A few whisps of fog or tendrils of cloud in the valleys in the morning really do not, on the whole, leave a person on the ground with a sense of "cloudiness" when the sun is shining -- and that is essentially the circumstance now. Nonetheless, we've had some epic fog along the coast last night and the night before, probably because of the record dry heat in the inland areas. Today's forecast calls for sun and temperatures in the low 70s along the coast, fairly similar to prevailing conditions yesterday. Tomorrow will be similar but just slightly cooler. El Nino is back in the news in San Diego. According to today's UT, forecasters have observed a marked strengthening in the Pacific El Nino in the last month, and many are predicting a greater chance of at least normal precipitation in Southern California this winter. Link. The state's perennial water issues are also in the news. The legislature has approved an $11 billion bond measure, which will appear on next year's ballot, designed to build a canal around the Sacramento - San Joaquin Delta in an attempt to reverse its alarming environmental decline. The compromise also lays the foundations for groundwater monitoring, as well as for water recycling in Southern California. Link.
