Weather Underground Forecast for Wednesday, December 02, 2009.
Two weather features will continue bringing wet weather to the US in Wednesday. One strong low pressure system will persistently advect northeastward over the Southeastern states and into the Tennessee Valley and Mid-Atlantic states. This will continue to pull abundant moisture off the Gulf of Mexico and spread scattered showers well into Kentucky and the Virginias. Expect periods of heavy downpours to track through Florida, Georgia, and the Carolinas. Strong winds will also accompany this system with gusts up to 60 mph in some areas. The South will see cool conditions with highs in the 50s. This system will also advect some minor moisture into the New England and Northeastern states. Overcast skies with a few sprinkles are expected with highs remaining in the 40s.
In the North, a strong low pressure system will dip into the Upper Midwest from central Canada and pull a cold front over the region. This system is associated with bitterly cold temperatures, thus, the Northern Plains and western Great Lakes will see highs in the single digits. This system will also continue to bring light and scattered flurries to Minnesota which will move into northern Wisconsin by evening.
Out West, high pressure hovering over the West Coast will bring another warm and dry day. Expect California to remain in the 60s and 70s, while the Pacific Northwest will see highs near 50 again on Wednesday.
Temperatures in the Lower 48 states Tuesday ranged from a low of 1 degrees at Alamosa, Colo. to a high of 87 degrees at Boca Raton, Fla.

Hurricane season draws to a close
Posted: 10:23 AM EST on November 30, 2009
It's November 30, and the inconsequential Atlantic hurricane season of 2009 is in the books. Residents all along the Atlantic coast can give thanks for this year's much-needed respite after the pummeling Mother Nature gave last year. The four direct deaths recorded this year represented the lowest death toll since the El Niño hurricane season of 1997, which also had four deaths. This year's season featured only nine named storms, three hurricanes and two major hurr

Did you know that...
Have you ever seen a meteor so bright it lit up the night sky? Apparently on this date in 1874, residents of Shreveport, La. saw a meteor that was described as being "brilliant, exploding with blue and yellow light."
