Cooler air will return to the East, with highs running 10 or more degrees below average in cities like Indianapolis, Columbus, Pittsburgh and Buffalo. At the same time, the West will heat up, with temperatures climbing into the 70s and 80s in Denver and Las Vegas — and possibly reaching the 90s in Phoenix. An unabated wave of severe storms is continuing its onslaught on states like Mississippi, Tennessee, Kentucky, Arkansas, Missouri and Indiana, unleashing life-threatening flash flooding, tornadoes and widespread damage.
