Watches & Warnings

High Surf Advisory
Issued: 4:02 AM HST May. 26, 2017 – National Weather Service

... High surf advisory remains in effect until 6 am HST Sunday...

* surf... building to 6 to 10 feet later today and continuing
through Saturday along south facing shores of Niihau... Kauai...
Oahu... Molokai... Lanai... Maui... Kahoolawe and The Big
Island... then lowering to 5 to 8 feet Saturday night into
Sunday.

* Timing... building today... peaking late this afternoon through
Saturday... then lowering gradually Saturday night into Sunday.

* Impacts... expect ocean water occasionally sweeping across
portions of beaches particularly around the early evening high
tide. Very strong breaking waves and rip currents are also
expected. Breaking waves may occasionally impact harbors making
navigating Harbor channels dangerous.

Precautionary/preparedness actions... large breaking surf...
significant shorebreak... and rip currents make entering the water
hazardous. Beachgoers... swimmers... and surfers should heed all
advice given by ocean safety officials and exercise caution.

Special Statement
Issued: 4:50 AM HST May. 26, 2017 – National Weather Service

... Coastal flooding anticipated in conjunction with high tides
and incoming South Shore surf...

Coastal flooding impacts associated with record level King tides
will continue each day along all shores through the Memorial Day
weekend. Beaches and shorelines, boat ramps and docks, and
vulnerable low-lying roads and structures will be impacted by
coastal flooding through the late afternoon and early evening
hours.

The following are the daily forecast tide levels and times for
Honolulu which will correspond to coastal flooding impacts. Be
advised that observed tides have been running higher than these
values.

5/26 Friday 5:07 PM HST 2.5 feet (advisory level South Shore surf)
5/27 Saturday 5:55 PM HST 2.4 feet (advisory level South Shore surf)
5/28 Sunday 6:46 PM HST 2.3 feet (south shore surf gradually lowering)
5/29 Monday 7:40 PM HST 2.1 feet (south shore surf lowering)

Maui County shorelines can expect similar impacts around the
times of high tides. Please visit the website
tidesandcurrents.NOAA.Gov for more information about water levels
in your area.

In addition to the coastal flooding impacts, a long period south
swell will steadily build through the day, peak later this
afternoon around advisory levels and hold through Saturday night
before gradually lowering into next week. The combination of large
surf and high water levels will result in additional wave run up
along the Southern Shores, likely flooding beaches that typically
remain exposed during normal high surf events. A high surf
advisory remains in effect for south facing shores through early
Sunday. Please see the coastal hazard message (cfwhfo) on our
website for more information regarding surf related hazards along
south facing shores.

Surf and water levels are forecast to gradually trend back toward
normal through the upcoming week.
